Mashhad
A group of Jews in Mashhad, Iran in the late 1800’s are forced to observe Torah and mitzvos secretly after agreeing to a forced conversion. Muhammed is an officer hired to spy on these Jewish homes, but he is willing to turn a blind eye - for the right sum. His wife and daughter, Leila and Yasmin, are uncomfortable with the source of their newly acquired wealth, especially after secretly infiltrating a Chanuka party and finding out that they are Jewish. Yasmin has it all but feels the lack of Jewish knowledge keenly. Maryam, a Jewish girl, wishes to be free and enjoy all the finer things in life and feels hemmed in by her Jewish life. Meanwhile, suspicion falls on Mohammed. To save himself, he plans on extorting everything he can from the hapless Jews and then giving in their names before fleeing the country himself. Leila and Yasmin foil his plan by informing the Jews on his list and join the beleaguered community in their desperate escape attempt. They escape just in time and Muhammed is arrested.
