The Promised Child

Based on Avner Gold's bestselling book (with permission from the author), “The Promised Child” tells the story of Mendel and Sara Pulichever who awaited a child in vain. A tzaddik promised them a child, but asked them to bring the child for his third birthday, and that Mendel should always lead Kol Nidrei. Following the tzaddik’s request, they brought their son Shloimele on the long journey, only to have him kidnapped along the way. Mendel strongly suspects the local priest who had taken an unusual interest in the brilliant Shloimele, but he has no proof. 30 years later, the Jews of Krakow are facing expulsion unless they can win a religious debate led by a new and brilliant Tulmudic master. They turn to Rabbi Mendel Pulichever for help. His opponent decides to check out the competition for himself and disguises himself as a Jew in Pulichev for Tishrei. During Rav Mendel’s Kol Nidrei, he feels his soul stirring and he asks the rabbi to explain. They discover that they are actually long lost father and son! During the debate, the newly found Shloimele reveals the duplicity of the priest and father and son are reunited.
